Abstract

The electronic spectrum of Co(II) in LiNO3–KNO3, AgNO3–KNO3, and dimethyl sulfone containing excess LiNO3–KNO3 resembles that of the dodecahedral [Co(NO3)4]2− ion and parameters for this symmetry and the approximation Td are calculated. Co(ClO4)2 yields an octahedral species in dimethyl sulfone.
