Abstract

An experiment using a commercial ultrasonic imager, sinusoidal motion of frequency 1 Hz, and a phantom tissue sample of width 2 cm was used to study speckle reduction in ultrasound imaging. Theory suggested that if the translation between averaged frames is decorrelated, it could reduce speckle without significant reduction in image quality. Overall, the authors' preliminary experimental result indicated that this arrangement could be utilized to evaluate speckle reduction methodology. >
