Abstract

The main research objective of the article entitled: “Special military operation: mistakes of the EU” was to assess the role of the European Union countries in the Russian‑Ukrainian conflict. The author analyzes and gives an assessment of the foreign policy of the last 30 years, conducted by Europe, towards 2 of its largest eastern neighbors – Ukraine and Russia. In connection with the above, an attempt is made to answer the following research questions: first, does Europe really bear co‑responsibility for starting the war in Ukraine? Second, what political decisions of the EU countries led to the start of the Federation”s aggression on February 24, 2022? Third, what threats to the security of the European Union should be considered relevant in the context of the analysis of the ongoing Russian‑Ukrainian war? Thus, a slightly different perception of the role of European states in the escalation of the war, which began in 2014, was presented, having paid attention to the geopolitical conditions of the international conflict in question. In writing this article, were mainly used causal and historical research methods, classic for the area of social sciences.
