Abstract

The economic concept of “susceptibility of a region to modernization” is substantiated. Its interrelations with other concepts with respect to regional development, such as competitiveness, efficiency, and security, are revealed and systematized. The basic systematic approach to estimating the susceptibility of a region to modernization is presented based on the analysis of its components. The author evaluates the level of susceptibility to modernization for a number of Russian regions. The final section highlights the necessity of this approach to identify possible ways of improving strategic management of regional development. It is proposed to consider the specifics of forming regional development strategies while adapting the process of their development to the modernization conditions of regional socioeconomic systems.
