Abstract

The protection and preservation of human health under present-day conditions of high urbanization rate is one of the priority tasks of contemporary construction. And here, the environmental safety of the residential buildings to be constructed is one of the most important factors. It is significantly affected by ionizing radiation for which radioactive radon gas is one of the sources. The level of public exposure depends on the concentration of radon in the aerial environment of outdoor territories and indoor spaces. The article considers the radon-related characteristics of the territories and indoor spaces in the Volgograd region and, based on the obtained results, provides calculations of the average annual effective equivalent doses of public exposure caused by radon and its daughter decay products in the region.
