Abstract

A mixture of 1,7-diaza-15-crown-5 and palmitic acid was found to be a highly efficient and selective cooperative carrier for uphill transport of Cu(II) ions through a chloroform liquid membrane. In the presence of threonine as a metal ion acceptor in the receiving phase and at the optimum pH of 2.5, more than 94% of total copper was transported over a period of three hours. The selectivity and efficiency of copper transport from aqueous solutions containing equimolar mixtures of several different cations was investigated.
