Abstract

Conductivity measurements were used to study the specific interactions between p-quinone molecules (1,4-benzoquinone, 1,4-naphthoquinone and 9,10-anthraquinone) and ions of pyridinium picrate salt in nitrobenzene. The results indicate that in nitrobenzene the enthalpies (−ΔH) of formation of complexes between pyridinium ions and p-quinone molecules increased with the p-quinone electron affinities (9,10-anthraquinone < 1, 4-naphthaquinone < 1,4-benzoquinone).
