Abstract
A heterologous rabbit anti-rat macrophage serum was prepared which showed cross-reactions with both rat erythrocytes and rat thymocytes. After sequential absorptions a specific antimacrophage serum was prepared, which did not show agglutination or cytotoxicity for rat thymocytes or lymph node cells. This specific AMS was cytotoxic for macrophages and inhibited phagocytosis in vitro but not in vivo. It completely inhibited the efferent arm of the tuberculin sensitivity reaction.
