Abstract

Specific heat measurements C( T) on hexagonal CeAuSn and CeAgSn and meaurements of the magnetic susceptibility ξ(T) for CeAuSn are reported for the first time. Both composed-show transitions with antiferromagnetic character. For CeAuSn the transition is found at 4.1 K and for CeAgSn at 6.45 K Above T N the specific heat is represented byC/T- λ 11.1 + βT 2 with considerably enhancedγ HT of 270 mJ mol −1 K −2 for CeAuSn and 210 mJ mol −1 K −2 for CeAgSn. Below the transition temperatureC/T decreases, extrapolating to a value of about 100 mJ mol −1 K −2 for both compounds.
