Abstract
Hydrogenic systems in quantum-confined thin semiconductor films (QWS) are studied theoretically by means of the variational method when a transverse magnetic field of arbitrary value is present. The proposed variational formula depends upon two variational parameters that are defined from a system of transcendental equations. The numerical solution of this system is provided for weak as well as for strong magnetic fields. It is shown that in cases of zero or high magnetic fields the well-known results are obtained.
