Abstract

The structure of contact, flight and alarm calls of three species of cordon bleus, Uraeginthus spp., has been investigated by sonagraph analysis. In each species, contact and flight calls are similar in structure, but alarm calls are distinctively different from them. Each species reacts to play-back recordings of its own calls but shows less reaction to the calls of the other species.
