Abstract

1. The first and second chain transfer constants have been determined for propylene telomerization in CCl4 initiated by Mn2 (CO)10 alone or in combination with DMFA at 120°C. 2. The agreement of the chain transfer constants and the stereospecificity in initiation by peroxide, Mn2 (CO)10 alone, and Mn2 (CO)10 in combination with DMFA is evidence that in the latter two cases the telomerization goes by a free-radical chain mechanism. 3. Dimethylformamide does not affect the distribution of telomer homologs or the over-all telomerization rate of propylene with CCl4 initiated by Mn2 (CO)10.
