Abstract

A study has been made of the adsorption of bromide ions at the mercuryaqueous solution interface from solutions of ammonium bromide and ammonium fluoride at constant ionic strength. The characteristics of this system are shown to be intermediate between those of the chloride and iodide systems, also at constant ionic strength. The general features of halide adsorption on mercury are discussed. A number of problems common to studies of the adsorption of simple ions are delineated.
