Abstract

The Brittle stars is a member of the Phylum Echinodermata that lives in habitats in the intertidal, subtidal, and deep sea zones. Brittle stars can be found in areas of coral reefs, sand, seagrass, macroalgae (seaweed), and dead coral fragments. One of the many intertidal areas of the brittle stars habitat is in the Bilik Beach, Baluran National Park. Ophiuroidea is important to be studied in the conservation area, Baluran National Park, because it is a natural conservation area that has native ecosystems and is managed with a zonation system and utilized for natural tourism, research, science and education purposes. This study aims to determine the type of brittle stars found on the Baluran National Park. The method used in this research is descriptive method with road sampling technique in the Bilik Beach area. The brittle stars species found and described are 8 species, namely Ophiomastix annulosa, Ophiocoma scolopendrina, O. brevipes, Ophioplocus imbricatus, Ophiolepis cardioplax, O. superba, Ophiarachna parvispina, and Macrophiothrix longipeda.

METODE PENELITIAN

Analisis data dilakukan di Laboratorium Ekologi Jurusan Biologi Universitas Jember. Identifikasi Spesies Ophiuroidea dilakukan di Laboratorium Echinodermata Pusat Penelitian Oseanografi Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia (P2O-LIPI). Alat yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kotak sampel, alat tulis, dan kamera Nikon D3300. Bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah spesimen bintang mengular, dan alkohol 70%. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif dengan teknik road sampling (Bookhout, 1996) di area Pantai Bilik. Pengambilan sampel data dilakukan dengan cara berjalan menyusuri pantai bilik saat surut maksimal. Data spesies bintang mengular berupa karakter morfologi dan habitat dicatat selama proses koleksi maupun saat identifikasi sampel. Identifikasi dilakukan dengan cara melakukan pengamatan pada struktur morfologi yang meliputi karakter dorsal dan ventral. Buku identifikasi yang digunakan adalah Mortensen (1933); Murakami (1943); Clark (1949); Clark dan Rowe (1971); Devaney (1974); Guille dan Wolff (1984)
