Abstract

The speciation of technetium after the reaction of KTcO4 in 12 M H2SO4/H2S(g) has been studied. The mechanism of formation can be described as a transformation from the yellow species TcVIIO3(H2O)2(OH) to the green complex TcVO(HSO4)3(OH)– followed by polymerization, leading to precipitation of Tc2S7 and the presence of the polymeric species Tc–O–Tc coordinated to sulfate ligands in solution.
