Abstract

In this article, we review recent updates in special safety considerations for the anesthetic management of pediatric patients in the MR environment. We discuss the inherent risks and hazards of the MR environment itself and necessary safety precautions. We evaluate the patient risk factors that may impact a safe sedation or anesthesia. We present unique challenges and limitations of equipment and monitors essential to provide a safe anesthetic. Fundamental aspect of MRI is not within the scope of this article and will not be discussed. In addition, anesthetic techniques which include both nonpharmacological and pharmacological will not be discussed.
