Abstract

The paper discusses the various problems that arise in supplying railway single-phase loads from the British Grid system, including unbalanced effects, fluctuations and harmonics.The importance of a high short-circuit level for connecting the railway supply transformers is demonstrated.Details are given of the equipment provided at the points of supply and of the methods of controlling and protecting it.
