Abstract

Since the 1950’s, queueing models have been studied by theorists and used by practitioners from various fields, such as call centres, health care management, forestry, manufacturing, transportation, telecommunications, parallel and distributed computing. Operational research has always been at the heart of these developments. A strong international community of operational researchers with interests in queues meet regularly at OR conferences and symposia and publish their work in OR journals. In Canada, the CanQueue conference is organized annually since 1999, attracting theorists and practitioners from all across Canada interested in queueing. INFOR, the flagship journal of the Canadian Operational Research Society, invites members of that community and others to submit publications for a special issue devoted to “Queueing Theory and Applications”. Authors are invited to submit manuscripts dealing with all aspects of queueing models, methods, and applications to various fields. Submissions must be original and not published elsewhere. Papers will be refereed in accordance to normal INFOR standards. For more information, please contact the guest editors.
