Abstract
The dynamics of radiative relaxation of multipole moments of atoms at rest in the ground state is considered for a low degree of dipole transition saturation. Using the field representation in the bipolar harmonic basis, the special features of the characteristic relaxation times are studied as functions of the jg → je transition type, ellipticity, and field frequency offset from resonance.
