Abstract

The interest in vanadium as a component of wear-resistant alloys is connected with its capacity to form structures of inverted eutectics [1]. It is assumed that the wear resistance of alloys bearing vanadium carbides exceeds that of alloys with chromium carbides, because vanadium carbides are reliably prevented by the austenitic matrix of the alloy from breaking off at the moment of collision with abrasive particles, though the crystal lattices and the sizes of the mentioned carbides are comparable [2]. However, the effect of vanadium on the wear resistance of such alloys remains unclear and ambiguous [2, 3].
