Abstract

Quality heat treatment—bright hardening of type 30KhGSA steel parts—in controllable atmospheres can be carried out in box furnaces operating in cyclic regime when they are equipped with units that automatically regulate the composition of gases. The effect of gas desorption from the furnace lining can be offset by feeding endo gas with a dew point lower than that technically required into the furnace, and the composition of the protective furnace atmosphere controlled by varying the amount of air admitted to the furnace. The formation of a condensate in the sampling system, which is caused by variation in the composition of the atmosphere during charging and discharging of parts, can be eliminated by discontinuing the sampling feed into the measuring instrument of the atuomatic control unit during the disturbance. A series-produced Inei-1 apparatus equipped with a complementary unit that prevents condensate from forming in the gas-sampling system, can be used for automatic maintenance of the composition of the furnace atmosphere.
