On Sex Life Eugenics: The Laws of Sex Life and Heredity,by T. W. Shannon [reprint of 1917 edition, published by S. A. Mullikin Co., Marietta, Ohio], 552 pp, with illus, $8.95, Garden City, NY: Doubleday & Co., Inc., 1970. Of all the subjects that interest the layman, sex and health are in the very forefront. Hence, any book which, addressed to the general public, takes up both of these subjects at the same time, can expect a generous welcome. This observation, true today, was equally true 50 or 100 years ago, although the character of the books has changed markedly in the interval. Physicians interested in social history will be glad to see the reprinting of a period piece that tried to explain the facts of sex while simultaneously inculcating moral purity and high ideals.
