Abstract

The article focuses on the residual voltage characteristics of surge protective device during natural lightning induction based on the field observation and lab tests. In natural lighting, induced voltage waveforms and amplitudes generated on the live conductor and the neutral conductor are basically consistent, the amplitude and steepness of the voltage at the household side are higher than those at the AWS collector site, but the continuation time is the same, also are the reverse waveforms and amplitudes. The analysis indicated that the 52m long buried cable reduced the induced voltage gradient and amplitude. Based on the field observation data we utilized impulse current generator to simulate different lightning current waveforms under 1μs steep waveform, 4 /10μs waveform, 8/20μs waveform and 20/60μs waveform, respectively, SPD residual voltage characteristics is discussed in the paper.
