Abstract

SUMMARYSpecificity of the parasitism of Aphids by EntomophthoralesOriginal methods used for isolating Entomophthora strains from Aphids and for infecting Insects with conidia produced on artificial medium are described. Entomophthora species held as exclusive parasite of Dipterous can kill Aphids under experimental conditions.Three species (E. apiculata Thaxter, E. conica Nowakowski and E. pyriformis Thoizon) have be found on Aphids in addition to the 12 Entomophthora previously quoted in the literature. The Aphid hosts and geographic distribution are given for each species of Entomophthora; about 50% of the hosts were not recorded before. The relative abundance of the 15 species found on Aphids in the field is discussed; E. aphidis Hoffmann infects 47% of the samples of diseased Aphids collected in France; E. planchoniana Cornu, 26%; E. thaxteriana 11%; E.fresenii 5%; the other species are occasionnally found and represents all together 11% of the collections.Preliminary elements on epizootiology of Entomophthora and prospects on the possibility of their use for biological control of Aphids are discussed.
