Abstract

Abstract The author successfully spawned wild Atlantic tomcod (Microgadus tomcod) in a small hatchery environment. Some females spawned naturally in aquaria, while others were hand stripped; all eggs were incubated and hatched in modified McDonald jars with a central water-inflow tube. Fish larvae were fed newly hatched Artemia sp. until they were 20-35 d old. Evidence is presented that Atlantic tomcod eggs are demersal and nonadhesive.
