Abstract

This study focused on the Spatio-temporal monitoring of land use land cover, built-up area, its trend, and its prediction in the valley of Peshawar, Pakistan. The collected data from 1990 to 2020 were spatiotemporally analyzed in GIS to get the required objective. Parallel to this, Terr-Set has been used for change analysis, whereas Cellular Automaton and Markov model have been applied for trend prediction of built-up area for 2050. The land use land cover analysis indicates that the study area's built-up area is rapidly increasing. The land use land cover statistics reveal that, the built-up area and vegetation cover showed a positive growth trend as the area under the built environment and vegetation cover consistently increased. However, the area under barren Land is decreasing with time, showing a negative trend. The analysis of the Markov model predicted that in 2050 the built-up area in Peshawar valley would be further increased at the cost of consuming bare soil and vegetation cover.
