Abstract

The purpose of this project is to demonstrate that GPS' precision navigation capabilities can be used to enhance and optimize mobile computing channel assignment procedures. Current channel assignments are typically based on hand-off procedures relying on signal strength differences between the mobile user and nearby base stations. The use of timing and positioning information from GPS can significantly enhance the channel assignment process used in existing mobile computing systems at reduced cost and increase effectiveness.
