Abstract

The picosecond transient grating technique is used to measure directly the excited state energy transport diffusion constant of dye molecules in solution. Extremely narrow grating fringe spacings (< 980 Å) enable measurement of the excitation's spatial mobility, in the diffusive limit. Results are compared to theoretical predictions for the concentration dependence of the diffusive propagation of the excitation.
