Abstract

In this paper, we present a study of the wireless system employing spatial multiplexing and diversity reception. The FDR performance of this system is studied for various channel models and compared with that of a single transmitter system with diversity reception. We can find from the simulation results that spatial multiplexing is an efficient way of improving the capacity of a wireless channel when the channel has a rich multipath structure. However, when the channel has correlated multipath, the performance of spatial multiplexing degrades, making single transmission a suitable technique for such situations.
