Abstract

Image restoration is the operation of taking a degraded image and estimating the clean image. Degradation in an image occurs primarily due to blur and noise. Restoration attempts to reconstruct or recover an image that has been degraded by using apriori knowledge of the degradation phenomenon. Thus restoration techniques are oriented toward modeling the degradation and applying the inverse process in order to recover the original image. This paper starts with basic model of image degradation/restoration process and proceeds towards enlisting commonly occurring blurs and noises. Thereafter, it reviews some spatial and frequency domain filters for restoration of noisy images.
