Abstract

A new method, spark plasma coating, was introduced to coat SiC particles with metallic layers. In this paper, the tungsten (W)-coated SiC particles were prepared through discharge treatment on a mixture of SiC particles and W powders in vacuum. The W-coated SiC particles with homogeneous and complete coatings were obtained at 900°C for 3h. The coatings on SiC particles were in a structure of Si2W-WxC (W2C, WC and WC1−x)-W from SiC outwards.
