Abstract
October is well known as breast cancer awareness month. For nurses working in the specialty it is a time when energy goes into planning events, building displays and fundraising. Even high street shops raise money through donations on sales of specially designed products. However, some patients living with a breast cancer diagnosis may dread these constant reminders. It is important that nurses consider those for whom pink ribbons and balloons may trigger unpleasant memories.
