Abstract

A distinct trend of opposition to the corporal punishment of children by their parents has evolved in the pediatric literature during the past 15 years. This was recently evident in the August 1991 AAP News Second Opinions article entitled, Corporal Punishment. Much of the reason for this movement is a misunderstanding of the true definition of corporal punishment in the home and its unwarranted association with violent child abuse. Colporal punishment is legally defined as bodily punishment of any kind.
