Abstract

In the age of globalization, the process of integration and alignment of cultures is traced. Admittedly, the interest of one nation to another one and to the stereotypes, which have been formed, is constantly growing. There is apparently an opposite tendency of preservation of national identity, as a result the interest to national identity is increas- ing. Language mirrors national images of one nation in the perception of other one, reflects a national world picture and processes generated by some modern social and political changes. Hence, there is the necessity to learn the verbalized images of one nations in the consciousness of others. The purpose of the article is to analyze, in the linguo-imagological aspect, the perception of Spanish cities by the famous Russian writer and publicist Mikhail Efremovich Koltsov during his stay in revolutionary Spain from 1936–1939. The object of the study is text fragments in which the author describes Spanish cities and the behavior of their inhabitants, while expressing a certain assessment. The subject of this research is the verbalization of the assessment of Spanish cities in the linguo-imagological aspect. The material of the study is the text of the book by M. E. Koltsov «The Spanish Diary». In the research process, a descriptive method, a method of stylistic interpretation, methods of semantic, linguocultural, and case analysis were used. The results of the study can be used in further development of the theory and history of language, literature, society, in the educational process in the courses of lexicology of the Russian language, regional studies, linguistic studies, intercultural communication, linguo-imagology. Conclusions. In the material under analysis there is mostly a positive evaluation of the Spanish cities. The usage of different linguoimagological means: lexical, morphological, syntactic, cognitive, stylistical for the evaluation of the Spanish cities and their citizens in the revolution period shows the complexity of the author’s talent as a publicistic writer, as an emotional, curious, intelligent language personality with his own linguistic view of the world which is based on the views of the anti-fascist soviet society of the 1930s.
