Abstract

Spacing of the fissuring network of Indian coals has been determined from the study of desorption of methane on sized coal particles. A critical appraisal of the morphology, rank of coals and their spacing of the fissuring network is provided. The limitations of the use of v ̇ 1 values, the rate of desorption in the first minute, for the determination of the maximum desorbable gas content of coals have been discussed.
