Abstract

When signals are propagating along ray paths in timevarying inhomogeneous media, there are cumulative effects, leading to Doppler phenomena. By representing the ray path as a two-parameter function, which takes into account its space-time evolution, now these effects are analysed by using special-relativistic concepts. This facilitates the discussion of high-velocity signals, as encountered in the electromagnetic theory, and serves as a check on previous results.
