Abstract

Recently, the technique of space-time (ST) code design based on minimum shift keying (MSK), an offset format, using delay diversity was proposed by Cavers. ST code with MSK gives much better performance than QPSK, for the same number of states. In this paper, this concept is extended to ST coded GMSK (Gaussian MSK). By using a sum of PAM signals to approximate GMSK, called linearized GMSK, and if only the highest energy component is considered, then GMSK is also in an offset format. Numerical results show that ST coded GMSK code gives much better bandwidth efficiency than MSK, with only a little performance loss and an increasing in decoding complexity.
