Abstract

In this paper, a simulator of interferometric imaging radar altimeter (InIRA) is presented for ocean science. The InIRA simulator includes raw signal simulation and radar processing module. The simulator first generates the three-dimensional ocean surface, and then simulates the raw signal based on the analytic model for microwave backscatter for small incidence angles. The radar processing module includes both synthetic aperture radar (SAR) focusing and interferometric processing. The simulation and processing are accelerated with the help of GPU and the CUDA parallel computing language. Simulated results show the InIRA simulator is effective for ocean application and can be extended to simulate radar observation of land areas.
