Abstract

A new modulation strategy for three-phase multilevel-converters, called Space Vector Fundamental Frequency Modulation will be presented. Derived from conventional Space Vector PWM, it was developed to overcome Selective Harmonic Elimination Method in mathematical complexity. Besides the harmonic optimization, the method offers a variable modulation index and is applicable for real-time applications. But in contrast to Selective Harmonic Elimination Method it is an approximation procedure. In this paper, both methods are compared, concerning several criteria such as voltage quality and mathematical complexity. Also, a classification with reference to EN 50160 is presented.
