Abstract

An equipment item supported on a low frequency mount requires a certain vibratory clearance with adjacent structure. With a random vibration input to an equipment item, the response of the equipment item is random and with the motion of the adjacent support being random, random motion analysis techniques are used. After a review of basic theory, an expression for the root mean square of the required clearance between an equipment item and adjacent structure is developed for a linear system. The solution includes some undetermined resonance characteristics and phase characteristics of complicated missile structure. A typical numerical example is given to illustrate the use of the final expression. These structural factors are discussed.
