Abstract

NASA's Space Station Redesign Team has completed the task of reducing its spending by a total of $15 billion over the next 5 years through redesigning the Space Station. President Clinton mandated the redesign last February.The team, led by NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin, presented its study to the House space subcommittee at an over‐crowded hearing on June 8. Several times throughout the hearing, Goldin repeated that it was inappropriate for NASA to indicate which of the three options for redesign it favored. “NASA will not establish which configuration it prefers… this is a decision to be made by the president,” Goldin said. The goal of the redesign process, he noted, was to indicate pros and cons of different options.
