Abstract

Cells that don't divide ultimately die. This is the unspoken rule of nature. New cells multiply and old ones simultaneously die. the dying exceed the offspring, the specie as a whole would ultimately extinguish. With near probability soon and certainty later, it is clear that the Earth will become uninhabitable. Unfortunately, all our eggs are in this single basket. Before radical and rapid environmental or sociological or indeed any other catastrophes wipe us out, we have an opportunity to sustain this millennia-old civilization of ours by propagating it to other planets. If the human species, or indeed any part of the biosphere, is to continue to survive, it must eventually leave the Earth and colonize space…The Earth should be regarded as the womb of life--but one cannot remain in the womb forever.
