Abstract

The Space Charge Limited Current (SCLC) is studied in NaCl, NaBr and KI crystals as a function of temperature and electric field during the electrolytic coloration process. The field dependence of the current density in KI crystal obeys a quadratic law indicating that it is SCLC. The experimental points, for the NaBr crystal, could not be fitted satisfactorily to the Many and Rakawy's theory [ Phys. Rev. 126, 1980 (1962)]. The trapping parameters are obtained for the NaBr crystal. Zone II and III are analyzed from which the activation energy W of F-center migration is obtained. The mechanism of F-center diffusion is discussed in the light of the results obtained in the present work. It is suggested that in different temperature regions different mechanisms are operative.
