Abstract
Electrostatic, shock-like Bernstein-Greene-Kruskal equilibria studied by Montgomery and Joyce are considered. If the electron distribution is continuous at the boundary between free and trapped electrons, the Mach number with respect to the ion sound velocity cannot be lower than unity.
