Abstract

Results are presented for the charging and discharging currents in high-density polythene. The phenomena observed are found to depend on the prior application of voltage and on the period of storage of samples at temperatures in the range 40-110 degrees C. The discharge current, plotted in the It versus t format where I is the current at time t, exhibits maxima which are temperature- and voltage-dependent. A possible interpretation of these plots is proposed in terms of the discharge of trapping levels ( approximately=1 eV) in the absence of retrapping.
