Abstract
The 10 most important soybean weeds in Argentina are: Sorghum halepense, Amaranthus hybridus, Datura ferox, Ipomoea purpurea, Chenopodium album, Anoda cristata, Cynodon dactylon, Cyperus rotundus, Echinochloa colonum and Digitaria sanguinalis. Losses are estimated to be above 400 million dollars yearly; about half of which is the cost of control. Intended control is achieved by mechanical and chemical methods. Good contribution is attained through cultural practices and somewhat by natural agents. Research projects are aimed at reducing both the cost of control and losses in yield and harvest operation. About 2/3 of the chemical treated area corresponds to post-emergence products. The most used herbicides for PPI, PRE, broad leaf POST and grass POST treatments are: trifluralin, metribuzin, bentazon and haloxyfop-methyl and fluazifopP- butyl, respectively. Recent important introductions have been imazaquin, imazethapyr, chlorimuron-ethyl, clethodim, propaquizafop and quizalofop-P-tefuryl.
