Abstract

In vivo studies in rats and in vitro studies in mouse cell cultures suggest that isoflavones in soy promote adipose tissue differentiation and enhance insulin sensitivity by increasing the activity of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ). It is unknown if isoflavones have this effect in humans. We sought to determine the effect of a soy supplement on abdominal fat metabolism in postmenopausal women.
