Abstract

Held in German captivity in Oflag II C Woldenberg, Polish officers used their communication skills not only in everyday life, but also to create. Theatrical plays, poems, prose and other literary genres were created in the camp, showing the artistry of their creators, but also the emotions that accompanied them during their stay in the camp. Correspondence - Kriegsgefangenepost - was the only manner of communication with the outside world; it was an important element of the prisoners existence as it raised a possibility of transmitting important information, as well as obtaining it through contact with loved ones. The POWs, despite the great limitations resulting from their stay in captivity, were able to write and publish books and magazines, some of which have survived to this day, constituting interesting documents related to the legacy of the POW community. The study presents the meaning of the written and spoken word in the POW community of Oflag II C Woldenberg.
