Abstract

Throughout its history, the Baltic states witnessed a great colonial competition between the major powers surrounding them, which greatly affected them. The political situation in the European continent, especially after the conclusion of the German-Soviet non-aggression pact on August 23, 1939.The annexation of the Baltic states to the Soviet Union is an example of the expansionist policy pursued by the Soviet Union in order to obtain new land through diplomatic pressure accompanied by the threat of using armed force. This expansion in the Baltic region has a long story that began with the end of World War I.
