Abstract

Monsoon onset is one of important characteristics of southwest monsoon which directly influence to Thailand’s water management and agricultural planning. Most of total rainfall amounts in Thailand are provided by the monsoon. Weather Research Forecasting model (WRF) was used as a tool to simulate dialy total rainfall, upper and lower horizontal winds over current period (1990-1999) and future period (2030-2039). These variables are analyzed to study southwest monsoon onset change over Thailand. The simulations show that average monsoon onsets during 1990s and 2030s are in 13th and 20th May, respectively. Standard deviations for the onset were 3 days and 4 days for current and future period, respectively.
